Elizabeth Richards wurde in New York City geboren und studierte an der Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, wo sie ihren Bachelor- und Magisterabschluß mit Auszeichnung bestand. Die Preisträgerin der Metropolitan Opera Auditions kam über ein Stipendium des Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes zu einem Fortbildungsstudium an die Musikhochschule in Stuttgart und gewann noch im selben Jahr einen Preis beim Internationalen ARD-Musikwettbewerb. Als langjähriges Ensemblemitglied am Theater Augsburg erarbeitete sie sich ihr umfangreiches Repertoire, das sie als Gast an Opernhäuser wie Stuttgart, Mannheim, Leipzig, Straßburg und die Volksoper Wien führte.
Ihr breit gefächertes Konzertrepertoire ermöglicht der Künstlerin eine internationale Konzerttätigkeit. Sie sang in Bern, Bordeaux, Madrid und Rom ebenso wie beim Flandern Festival, beim Festival de Musica de Canarias und den Internationalen Musikfestspielen in Athen. Aufnahmen beim ORF Wien, dem Bayerischen, Hessischen und Mitteldeutschen Rundfunk, sowie Radio Vatikan und der RAI Rom runden ihre Tätigkeit ab. Sie sang sowohl für Papst Johannes Paul II. in der Sommerresidenz Castelgondolfo als auch für Königin Sofia von Spanien im Auditorio Nacional in Madrid.
Seit 1997 ist Frau Richards Dozentin and der Fachschule der Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt. Sie unterrichtet Hauptfach Gesang sowohl für die künstlerische Ausbildung (Oper und Konzert) als auch für pädagogische Abschlüsse.
Elizabeth Richards was born in New York City. She received her Bachelor/ Master of Music Degrees and a Performer’s Certificate in Opera from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. As recipient of a DAAD scholarship she completed her Artist’s Certificate at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart. She holds prizes from the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.
As an ensemble member of the Augsburg Theater she acquired an extensive repertoire, enabling her to guest in the opera houses in Stuttgart, Mannheim, Leipzig, Straßburg, Graz and at the Vienna Volksoper. Her international concert career includes appearances in Bern, Bordeaux, Madrid, Munich, Stuttgart and Rome, at the Flandern Festival, the International Music Festival in Athens and the “Festival de Musica de Canarias”. Recordings for ORF Vienna, BR, HR, MDR, Vatican Radio and the RAI Rome have documented her career. She sang before Pope John Paul II at his summer residence in Castelgondolfo and for Queen Sofia of Spain in the National Auditorium in Madrid.
Ms. Richards has taught voice at the Academy for Musical Arts in Darmstadt, Germany since 1997. She instructs voice majors preparing for performance and teaching degrees.
